Online Master of Legal Studies – Corporate and Health Care Compliance Emphasis

Industries such as health care, insurance and banking are highly regulated fields with a variety of legal guidelines they are required to follow. Compliance law focuses on mandating the regulations these organizations must follow to continue operating safely and legally. Large institutions often establish compliance departments dedicated to creating processes to track these requirements and manage data verifying organizational track records.

Whether you’re looking to advance in your career or make a switch into this field, this MLS program can support your goals by building your knowledge of the legal principles that underlie various business and health care regulations. This educational background can facilitate your understanding of how to create institutional frameworks in your organizations that meet policy demands.

The skills and knowledge you’ll develop

This program equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to implement relevant laws, regulations and ethical standards within organizations of any size. Your expertise will help businesses uphold legal and ethical standards, avoid reputational damage and build trust with stakeholders and employees. You’ll be well prepared to take on these challenges after gaining skills such as:

  • Assessing and managing risk
  • Conducting internal investigations
  • Developing compliance processes and programs
  • Enforcing ethical decision-making
  • Interpreting regulations and compliance requirements
  • Managing recordkeeping and reporting

Additionally, you’ll study strategies for devising and maintaining reporting mechanisms associated with industry guidelines. Through foundational courses and electives, you’ll also build abilities in legal writing and other broadly applicable skills.

What is a degree emphasis? Is it the same as a concentration?

A degree program’s emphasis is similar to a concentration, but there are key differences.

  • A concentration is a formalized selection of courses within a major. A concentration requires a minimum of 15 credit hours of which at least nine credit hours must be upper division. Your concentration appears on both your ASU diploma and your transcripts.
  • An emphasis is a selected topic area defined within the major. It’s typically 9–12 credit hours and doesn’t need to be officially declared. The emphasis will not appear on your diploma or transcripts.

Online Master of Science in Global Technology & Development (Applied International Development)

Global technology and development uses international development and scientific disciplines to better understand and more capably address global issues. Examples include addressing climate change, delivering accessible health care and education and providing clean drinking water.

There are two key components of global and technology development:

  • Recognizing the ability of technology to affect societies.
  • Understanding how changes in societies lead to technological innovation.

While technology is a foundational focus, this discipline takes many other concepts into account. Depending on the specific context of a project, considerations such as history, religion and society can all come into play. Effective development needs more than just the right technology and data. Implementation often requires a strong grasp of a community’s culture.

What is technology’s role in global development?

Technology, which is taken to mean every sort of tool or system used by society to advance its goals, affects social, political and economic processes and outcomes.

In this program, you’ll learn how to analyze these processes and outcomes, and critique the variable impacts of technology and political and social development and change.

What abilities can I develop in this applied international development concentration?

Key skills you can hone related to development include:

  • Analysis.
  • Evaluation.
  • Management.
  • Planning.
  • Research.

The broad range of potential coursework in this program means you can cultivate abilities that are highly relevant to your field of interest.

Can I select a specialization for my degree?

You can choose a specialization from other colleges within ASU and select elective courses offered through them, including but not limited to:

  • College of Health Solutions.
  • Thunderbird School of Global Management.
  • W. P. Carey School of Business.

If you want to assist in the development of societies and countries across the globe, this global technology and development degree can prepare you to do so regardless of the specific field in which you work.

Online Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art – Digital Photography

This BFA fosters creative photography practices and enhances your visual literacy skills with image creation and purposeful critique at the core of all courses. Hands-on assignments offer opportunities to create experiences and objects in response to various themes while engaging critically with classmates and instructors. Projects may include portraits, landscapes, videos and print-to-order books. Upper-division courses build on your understanding of introductory techniques and encourage you to pursue self-defined projects.

Coursework emphasizes the relationship between technique, aesthetics and concept. Along with learning the tools and techniques of photography, you’ll focus on the meaning they create and how they function within and beyond art contexts. You’ll also develop the skills to ask critical questions, process what you see intuitively and embrace your creative potential. Graduates complete the program with a portfolio with a cohesive artist statement, a community of peers and mentors, and the ability to give and receive critical feedback.

Who’s a good fit for this photography program?

This program is compatible with a variety of backgrounds, interests and goals. It’s ideal for those passionate about creative expression and who want to refine their vision as photographers and artists. Courses provide opportunities to create and direct experiences for viewers, as well as expand on elements, objects and ideas. If you’ve always wanted to study art and photography but haven’t due to location, time and accessibility, this program is an excellent option.

You’re also a good fit if you want to begin a career or pursue graduate study in art and photography. You’ll gain the skills needed to excel in creative careers including editorial, commercial advertising photography, journalism, design, photo and art direction, museum curation, gallery direction and more. While courses don’t provide occupational training for running a photography business or entering the advertising world, graduates have used their skills to pursue these paths.

Camera and equipment requirements

As a digital photography major, you must obtain various equipment and tools to complete your assignments. We recommend you use a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera, but any quality, mirrorless camera with fully manual options and video capacity is acceptable. You’ll also need several memory cards, a portable hard drive, an external desk hard drive and cloud space to store your images in multiple locations.

Additionally, your computer should meet certain requirements including the capability to send and receive large files, conduct video conferencing and edit digital images. The software you’ll use includes Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere and other creative tools. Note: as an ASU student, you can use Adobe Creative Cloud complimentary.
