Online Master of Public Health – Public Health Technology

Health care today needs leaders who are passionate about prevention, health equity and improving access for all communities. Our Master of Public Health (Public Health Technology) program enables you to be a leader who has the expertise to understand and improve complex issues such as chronic disease, environmental threats and disparities in community conditions. You’ll learn to think critically about how these issues impact populations and how to create interventions that make a measurable difference.

In this program, you’ll learn how to effectively navigate policy, business, and technology environments to drive meaningful public health change. The curriculum teaches you how systems operate and how policy decisions shape health outcomes, so you can be prepared to influence those systems from within. With an emphasis on technology, you’ll also explore how data and digital tools can create scalable, sustainable solutions for addressing public health challenges.

This program is pending program fees, which will be assessed for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. Speak with an enrollment coach to learn more.

Build skills at the intersection of public health and technology

As one of the first of its kind, this degree program places you at the leading edge of public health and technology. You’ll learn to apply artificial intelligence, design thinking, engineering and entrepreneurship tools and mindsets to improve health outcomes and empower communities.

The program helps you turn innovation into impact, preparing you to create healthy and resilient communities. Coursework and projects will help you reimagine how technology can advance health equity, from creating wearable devices that promote physical activity to designing apps that deliver real-time health insights. Additional examples include the development of systems that monitor wastewater to detect early signs of disease or explore new ways to ensure everyday technology is fair, ethical and accessible for everyone.

How our two online public health master’s degrees compare

ASU offers two distinct online graduate pathways in public health and technology.

  • This program, the Master of Public Health (Public Health Technology), is a comprehensive, two-year program designed for individuals who want to deepen their understanding of public health with a variety of technology and engineering tools and mindsets, while exploring implications for policy, ethics, economics and health outcomes.
  • The Master of Science in public health technology, is a one-year program created for students who want to bring their technology passion to public health. This program is best for students who may have technical expertise and wish to apply that knowledge to health systems and scenarios. Clinicians, aspiring physicians or anyone seeking a broader view of how technology and health policy influence population well-being are encouraged to apply to this brief program.

While both programs emphasize innovation, the Master of Public Health (Public Health Technology) provides a more in-depth foundation in public health principles, making it an excellent choice if you’re pursuing a long-term career in health leadership or preparing for further study in medicine or public health.

Online Master of Legal Studies – Federal Indian Law Emphasis

This MLS program offers a broad understanding of the law, including legal concepts, analysis and writing. You’ll gain foundational insight that helps you connect legal knowledge to your current or future work with Native communities and governments.

With the central role tribes play in land management, economic development, health care and cultural preservation in the U.S., demand is growing for nonlawyer professionals who understand this legal framework. This program equips you to make ethical, effective and legally sound decisions when engaging with Native communities or in fields connected to tribal interests.

Courses build a foundation in legal principles related to economic development, gaming operations, jurisdictional authority, land rights, resource management, self-governance and tribal sovereignty. Whether you serve tribal governments, support Native-led initiatives or work across sectors, your knowledge of federal Indian law positions you to build stronger, more respectful relationships between governments.

The knowledge and skills you’ll develop

The curriculum prepares you to navigate the legal framework that shapes tribal, federal and state relations. You’ll learn how jurisdiction and authority are shared, where legal challenges emerge and how to support tribal sovereignty through respectful, effective engagement. You’ll build the abilities to:

  • Navigate jurisdictional challenges in law enforcement, business, education and environmental regulation.
  • Engage in land use, resource management and economic development aligned with tribal rights.
  • Comply with federal laws affecting tribes, including the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
  • Apply ethical, culturally informed practices in cross-governmental and organizational settings.

What is a degree emphasis? Is it the same as a concentration?

A degree program emphasis is similar to a concentration, but there are key differences.

  • A concentration is a formalized selection of courses within a major. It requires a minimum of 15 credit hours, with at least nine upper-division credit hours. Your concentration appears on both your ASU diploma and transcripts.
  • An emphasis is a selected topic area within the major. It’s typically 9–12 credit hours and doesn’t need to be officially declared. The emphasis will not appear on your diploma or transcripts.

This MLS program examines the legal and regulatory structure behind the federal government’s annual contract spending, which totals hundreds of billions of dollars. Emphasis courses cover contract formation and termination, compliance, anti-corruption measures, risk management and ethical responsibilities.

  • Addressing cybersecurity and data protection requirements.
  • Challenging contract awards and resolving disputes.
  • Examining small business programs and certifications.
  • Navigating cost rules and audit requirements.
  • Studying the federal acquisition process.
  • Understanding procurement procedures and contract types.
