Research from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing shows that BSN-prepared nurses have better clinical outcomes, including lower mortality rates, lower failure to rescue rates and higher proficiency in diagnoses.

RN to BSN admission requirements

To qualify for this program, you must have an active RN license or have passed the NCLEX exam. If you’re currently earning an associate degree in nursing at a regionally accredited college, you can pursue both degrees simultaneously through the RN to BSN – concurrent enrollment program.

Due to legislative regulations, applications for this program aren’t accepted from some states. Additionally, this program isn’t available to prospective students residing outside the U.S. We strongly recommend you visit our state authorization page to learn how ASU is authorized to operate in your state, policies for out-of-state students and program exceptions.

How long is an RN to BSN program?

You can complete the online RN to BSN in as few as 14 to 24 months, depending on your transfer credits. This program allows you to continue working as an RN while earning your Bachelor of Science in nursing. Since you’ve already completed coursework for your associate degree in nursing, the timeline for this BSN is shorter than earning a degree, providing a convenient and efficient path to advance your nursing career.

Online Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Sciences

Health sciences refers to a broad spectrum of disciplines related to improving health care delivery, medical outcomes and treatment for individuals, communities and systems.

Throughout this BAS in health sciences, you’ll engage with a cross-disciplinary curriculum designed to support your development of the knowledge and abilities required for career growth in health-related fields. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore topics related to your chosen occupation in greater depth. You can customize your degree based on your areas of interest, such as:

  • Health sciences
  • Behavioral and mental health
  • Emergency medical services

How is a Bachelor of Applied Science degree different from a BA or BS degree?

Bachelor of Applied Science degrees are designed specifically for students who’ve earned an Associate of Applied Science.

  • Students who’ve earned an AAS from a regionally accredited institution may transfer 60 credit hours toward their BAS.
  • Students who’ve earned an AAS from a regionally accredited Arizona community college may be eligible to transfer up to 75 credits toward their BAS.

While an Associate of Applied Science in disciplines related to health and health technology can lead directly to a career in your chosen area, earning your bachelor’s degree will assist in your pursuit of management roles. Please connect with an academic advisor to ensure your courses meet degree requirements.

If you don’t have an AAS and aren’t planning to earn one, please look into ASU's online Bachelor of Science in health sciences.
